Rules and guidelines for herding competitions

A practical guide for participants

INTRODUCTION

What exactly are the rules and which is reviewed, appears in many beginners do not really clear. Course, one can discover many spectators and more experienced handlers and juries are always willing to explain. In the Dutch language is never a clear manual published where both participants and judges have to hold. De basis is altijd de ‘rules for trials, guidelines for judges of the ISDS, be found on the website of the ISDS and on the website of training BCCZ. This paper is focused on the handlers extract, supplemented by the 'old' Rules For Trials and practical tips, of "herding competitions: rules and interpretations, a practical guide for participants and juries ", written by Henk Verhoeven. The full document of Henk also be found on www.bordercollieclubzwolle.com. There can and will always be unforeseen situations during a run, and this document will therefore not 100% complete (can) his (additions are welcome!).

Note: the jury decides and is always right. This document provides guidelines and handles handed, no hard and fast rules and laws! These handles are in the first instance directed to the official matches, to points deductions and disqualification to understand and hopefully prevent. In official competitions, organized by the COWS, all rules where the organization, participants and a trail (such distances from the outrun & drive, dimensions of the pin & separation rings) should meet charters. It earned the recommendation once to view. All regulations and statutes can be found on the website of the BCCN. The competitions organized by the regions and individuals do not conform to those rules, but they will largely be based on those rules.

Before you can join a promotiewedstrijd, you should start with your dog a license get. A starter license (only if your dog has a pedigree) gives you a combination, so if you want to walk with a dog that (with a different handler) A start has been licensed, you as a new combination still get a starter license. Walk in the qualifying class can only be promoted from the promotion class. From the qualifying class can you post for the European Championships, het Continental Sheepdog Championship. Promotional contests are in level equal to class 2 matches in the neighboring countries, qualification is equivalent to class 3.
For the class 1, 2 and 3 competitions in the Netherlands are no hard requirements, since they are not organized by the COWS, but wishes. Depending on the trail (there can be very large differences in size and level of difficulty between games in the same class!) it can be, terms of level desired for example be in possession of a license or start on promotion / qualification level to run. You can, for example as promotional runner class 3 walk, while promoting class 'actually' equals class 2. And sometimes a class 3 game far too easy for a combination of the promotion class! Anyone who organizes an unofficial contest is free to the trail at their discretion to put down and with any class to indicate.

Elke jury is anders, if you're in an already lost points (Nowadays even gedist) if you do not stick takes the field, the other as your dog on the field touches. Learn to know each jury, knows what he / she absolutely does and does not want to see, make sure you are present at the briefing and ask questions there too! The final responsibility for assessing a run always remains with the individual juror are. Each trial differs in terms of land, type of sheep and other circumstances. As long as a jury in a trial all participants in the same way he judges and makes clear during the briefing he pay special attention, it's not really that there is some diversity in terms of beliefs about what is right and wrong, or how errors lead to points deduction. A jury may be expected that he understands the practical work of the Border Collie. Situations not explicitly lay down the rules, he must from this point to assess.

General: If the handler by the jury is asked to leave the field, This disqualified (say). If the handler itself chooses to stop this 'retired' (right). By walking away from the pole and / or by a call to give to the jury by the hand / stick in the air,, you indicate that you stop. In both cases you lose all points. If the 'time' is before you're ready, void the points of the part you are doing and all the following parts. The already scored points remain. At equal total score, first the outrun, lift-fetch (olf) points added up and compared. Should there still be no difference then the points of the drive (olfd) there, then the value of the separation, etc. Should everything be exactly the same, than either the jury decides either equal outcome remains.
The basis of the matches herding is the practical work of the Border Collie and from that point of view. It is therefore that the dog work ability, insight and shows predominance, quality and effectiveness. The handler is reviewed including the handling of his dog and how efficiently and practically he, with the aid of the dog, situations arising dissolves.
