Jos Bruggeman

Hello all.

I will first introduce myself. My name is Jos Bruggeman and I am 41 years young.

I am married to Anja (See photo) and we have two daughters, Tamara in Larissa.

We have three dogs; a boxer (Frill) and two Border Collies. (Haley Caelin)

With all we live now been three years in Wijhe. Well then we will proceed with what I really wanted to tell.

Two and a half years ago we were looking for a new dog, one B.C. it had to be. We had already earlier tend to have to buy one because the kids were little we had simply not enough time for. Now the kids were big enough and could be passed to purchase. Then begins the search for a good dog, verscheidene addresses langs. A few hundred kilometers a day driving to different nests to view. Of Three Houses in Groningen to somewhere behind Nijmegen.

What a difference in Borders and what a difference in education. In the first address was their Border everything, he could drive sheep and cows and in between he did the household there are at. A pedigree was not necessary because it was just of itself a good dog. Have we not done.

At the second address was already not otherwise. Then it via the puppy mediation of B.C.C.N..

And so we came to the address of Tjitse Terpstra. Made an appointment to look at the nest to look, We were overwhelmed with the same information on the Borders, on herding and everything.

But the important thing was that he knew what he is told, and you are at work had a good learning herding Border. After almost three hours we stepped out the door with an option on a bitch with blue eyes.

The information let settle, and when the deal is made. One evening had come, and we could pick her up, the introduction to our (now deceased) Collie went without a hitch, certainly far from each family. As the introduction to our Boxer, what can a small puppy than a noise.

Local residents came out of their homes, they thought someone was killed.

The residents and the puppy reassured and after a few hours, the flattened head of the Boxer no longer sees something scary. The education goes further as a train, which are also not always the times when you think.

One month or eleven gathered information about training opportunities nearby. In Broekland was someone with sheep where you could train.

But then disaster strikes.

M.K.Z. in Oene, a case in Fortmond and later lead the Netherlands to the effects of this disease. I do not now about this tragedy and move on quickly to the 14th month in the life of Haley.

The training opportunity in Broekland was over, the peasant was (understandable) many people no longer in his yard.

The BCCNblad there again caught and looked at other training opportunities. Dick van Dijk, Border Collie Training Zwolle. Dick van Dijk, that will be very familiar to, where we know that name anyway.

Where does the man than? That man lives in Wythmen. The, that's the man when we have agreed and that the only Border Collie in the world had not looked at the sheep. What was that dog yet again? Plotter, if I remember correctly. But even as a bell to ask if there is room.

Then we get the answer;”No, We're completely full but come and have a one night we can see if the dog is still prone to have. One evening anyway but look. Unfortunately, we would then have the second Border Collie not to sheep looks?

But Dick knows what to do and what lubricates liverwurst with the sheep in their rear, and there appears to be something of interest for Haley to come. And then we, although there is no place, still at the club hanging.

Anja as a student and as a spectator I. The training is going well, although there may be a switch be converted.

After a few months of training with it ( Icke if you dare, I dare) a contest in Hoenderloo, The third prize was the reward. Actually I'm only now in the story, because Anja doing workout with Haley.

After the presentation of the third prize, I looked (If) to the points and said something along the lines of if you had done this so and so had resolved did you first can be. It was not the first time I had such “good advice” along the line had suggested. The tone was put, I had it yourself show.

But could not because I have always said that two dogs in the house was sufficient, and you can not have two handlers to train a dog. So far as I am concerned, this was not fit, until our Boxer there would not be a Border Collie could be purchased. But Anja thought otherwise. (With room for two is also room for three.)

On a beautiful day in May she said she wanted a piece of the car touring, unsuspectingly got me and the children in. Anja was driving and the road led us to Hot Ones, to the house of Serge van der Sweep.

There I was confronted with a litter of Border Collie puppies. Thank congratulations on your birthday and find only one out( I am the birthday in May.) Yes but we already have two dogs. “And there may still be quite alone in”, was the answer “or do not want to work with a Border, you always talk so much on the side.”

I stood there with my mouth full of teeth. The children were all between the puppies and then you still tacking.

The information that we had received our first border we did not have so it was only talked about the origin. It's a puppy from Glen and the Irish Fly, both from Ireland, because the Boxer is a male and absolutely no other dog accepts, was another bitch picked. Then comes the name search turn, it was an Irish pup so it had, I found, also an Irish name are. It was Caelin what little flower means.

Due to a previously scheduled trip we took her nine weeks.

And then you get back to the encounter with the other dogs, for the introduction to Haley, we were not afraid but that of Fodor we were still a bit more cautious given the previous acquaintance.

What can do things differently than you have in your head.

Haley moest absoluut niks, nothing, nada of Caelin have, while Fodor is right pals with it.

The world upside down so. It really has lasted a few weeks before the puppy Haley also accepted.

Now I had a Border for myself, I watched at practices and games even better than I already did. Just a little advantage over other greens that without the knowledge “green field” on steps.

When the time was right to begin with Caelin, I should not have happened.

It is far, Caelin behind the sheep. In previous taster sessions ( to the long line) I had noticed that she was not afraid of sheep, they used the sheep namely as flostouwtjes. “Try to keep her steady”; Dick said when we stepped onto the green field. “Sure Dick do we do”I thought confidently.

“Lay down, Caelin “; I said and walked to the sheep, the sheep to come she was still. That went so well. “Walk on, Caelin, steady steady STEADY”, like a rocket flew them between the sheep. Fortunately, she lay down on the command again.

All lead that I thought I had, washed off me. I was just like any other greens in the field with an empty head. When cycling I walked in the beginning each time the lines. The Come Away bye and I got together and so there are lots of things. Dick had better say that I had to keep myself a little steady.

Good, All beginnings are difficult, but I am now quite something different to all other handlers at the club, perhaps because they have had this stage but more likely because they are so quiet in the field are.

Who knows it will succeed me again that I can convey to calm the dog, but it will still take a while. For now I'll just my “good advice” for me and keep my self itching to do a handler to be.

For me, the header may therefore be converted into:

The best handlers stand by the side.
